Fishing for Tarpon with Capt. Rick Gannon

For some time now the wind hasn’t been cooperating for us, but there are still Tarpon to be caught. The mullet run is about over and guides will now be drifting crabs and pinfish, also anchoring up to use dead bait. All of the channels throughout Islamorada are good for Tarpon depending on the tide. Channel two and five have been a little better at producing fish this week.

I had a group from Texas out for an evening Tarpon trip on Tuesday. It started out slow with a couple of sharks, a Blacktip and Nurse. Then we jumped one Tarpon and finally hooked up just before dark with a 70 pounder! We caught him and as soon as we got back on anchor the same angler hooked up again with the first Tarpon’s twin that finished up the night for us.
